With a reported one third of men recently admitting to spending at least 30 minutes a day on their personal appearance, the continued surge in the popularity of male grooming is proving a positive force in the growth of Derby business, The Dandy Gent.
The three-year-old business, comprising a traditional barber shop and grooming products manufacture, continues to thrive, building an envied reputation for wet shaves, hair cutting, beard styling – and for its unique collection of traditionally made products such as beard oil, moustache wax and shaving cream.
This month, owner, apothecary and Master Barber, Shane O’Shaughnessy, is looking to employ another apprentice, is developing an exciting new product line for The Dandy Gent’s traditional grooming range – and is adding enhancements and new services to his barber shop offering.
“Reports of national trends in male grooming popularity are confirmed by the rising number of customers we see in the shop – and the increase in month-on-month sales of our products.” Explains Shane.
“We’ve got to make sure that we keep ahead of the game at this stage in the sector’s growth, by constantly reviewing the needs of local gents – and giving them more for their money wherever possible.” He continued.
“Following the recent graduation of Austin, our first apprentice barber, we will be looking to hire a new apprentice to make sure we can cope with demand in the shop mid-term – and protect the longer-term growth of our manufacturing side.”
In a bid to continually develop its services, The Dandy Gent will soon be complementing its hair cutting service by providing traditional neck strips – to protect the shirt – and a cutthroat neckline tidy as standard.
In addition to the enhancement of services there will be a new ‘Luxury Beard Re-style’ service available – which includes hot towel treatment, beard oil and a cutthroat edge tidy.
