Derby Barber to open second shop in City

Derby’s oldest traditional barber shop, The Dandy Gent, is adding a second shop to its portfolio to accommodate massive demand and create a higher profile in the fashionable Cathedral Quarter of the city centre.

Owner, barber and master apothecary, Shane O’Shaughnessy, has been building the Dandy Gent brand for over three years now, and feels the time is right to open a larger ‘flagship’ barbershop in the award-winning shopping area of the city.

Employment of three new barbers, and the relocation of some existing staff, will be required to service the two shops in Shane’s home city from March.

“There’s a lot of work to be done to ready the new shop structurally,” Said Shane, “but we are on top of it, and all very excited.”

“The new Irongate shop is much bigger than our shop on Nuns Street, so we can accommodate many more customers, provide a much more relaxed experience – AND have lots of fun with the decor.”

The shop will include a retail area to display The Dandy Gent’s own renowned range of male grooming products, made at its Derby-based manufactory, as well as some of the World’s most popular niche men’s hair products.

The family business, managed by Shane and his wife Sherri, has been operating its Nuns Street barbershop and producing grooming products since 2013, with Shane plying his trade as barber and apothecary since the age of 12 years old.

“We’ll be announcing an opening date soon, so we encourage gents from Derby and beyond to keep their eyes on our Facebook page for regular updates.”
