Terms: Free £10 Gift Cards will only be issued on purchases of The Dandy Gent products and/or services in the shops on a single visit. Steve set to shave in loving memory

Regular customer of The Dandy Gent, Steve Moss, has booked in for a charity beard removal on March 3rd, to raise money for Cancer Research.  Steve has been growing his beard and moustache in memory of his brother-in-law, Richard Morrison, who died of cancer in January 2015.

The idea was sparked by Richard himself, just before he passed away, when he challenged Steve to grow a goatee and moustache in, as he called it, ‘Januhairy’ and ‘Februhairy’.

“Richard was always full of fun, and full of life,” said Steve. “It was just like him to challenge me to grow a beard – he knew my wife Cristina, didn’t really like it!”

Now things are beginning to settle a little, I thought the time was right to remember him in a way that I know he would appreciate.”

“I hope to raise as much money as I can for Cancer Research in Richard’s honour – and my wife looks forward to me being clean-shaven again soon!” Concluded Steve.

Steve’s regular barber, Lauren, will be whipping off his whiskers in March at The Dandy Gent’s Irongate barbershop. All onlookers and supporters are welcome to attend and cheer Steve on.

Anyone wishing to support Steve’s fundraising is invited to make a donation via his Justgiving Page.

Barbershop quartet drop in

Just before Christmas, The Dandy Gent treated its Friday afternoon clients to a spot of gloriously nostalgic four-part harmony, courtesy of local choir; Back Numbers.

The four members of the popular ‘Derby A Cappella’ chorus delighted customers and passer’s-by with a two hour performance of a variety of songs all arranged in the barbershop style of close harmony.

Their repertoire included pop songs – past and present – songs from stage and screen, traditional barbershop songs from America – and several festive favourites.

“Gordon and the boys of Back Numbers were absolutely amazing.” Said Shane O’Shaughnessy owner and founder of The Dandy Gent. “We can’t wait to welcome them back again soon.”

Austin advances at Irongate

Long-term visitors to The Dandy Gent will be familiar with the youngest barber on its books, Austin Roots, who is about to shed his ‘Junior’ status, and advance to fully-fledged ‘Barber’.

21-year-old Austin is in his third year with the team and based at the thriving city centre, ‘flagship’, shop on Irongate in Derby’s fashionable Cathedral Quarter. He started as an Apprentice in 2015, progressed to Junior Barber mid-2016, and is now a popular and quality barber with an ever-increasing client following of his own.

From now, Austin’s rates will be raised in line with his new shop status, to The Dandy Gent, Irongate’s ‘Barber’ rates, part of its pricing structure comprising; Apprentice, Junior, Barber, Senior and Master Barber.

Master Barber, owner and founder of The Dandy Gent, Shane O’Shaughnessy said, “It’s a joy to see Austin growing into the fine barber that he is. He’s grown up within the team and is a very popular member with both our barbers and our customers.”
